Yahoo to spend $100M in bid for more brand buzz

Yahoo to spend $100M in bid for more brand buzz

According to Yahoo Inc, their achievements have been overlooked by investors and the media. Now they are taking action to compete with their competitor, Google.

Yahoo is spending more than $100 million on ads to get the word out to consumers.

Yahoo has been struggling in the shadow of Google. To get out of Google's shadow, they are marketing a new way of looking at your search engine. Yahoo is making themselves as more customized to their customer. One ad reads: "There's a new master of the digital universe. You.", said Boston.com.

I think that this is a good idea for Yahoo. But it kind of reminds me of the PC commercials that emphasize on your desktop being "you" to compete with Mac computers. Yahoo executives think that this ad campaign will reverse the "bad rap" that they have gotten. I don't think it can hurt them at all. This is a medium that Yahoo has no explored so, why not?

I personally have a Yahoo account and I have no complaints. I enjoy their homepage and email account. I hope that these ads do help them catch up to their Google Inc competitor. I believe in competition driving companies to produce the best product.I'm glad Google is keeping Yahoo on their toes.

  1. Haha, I loved the part where you mentioned how Yahoo ads are starting to sound like PC ads because Microsft is backing Yahoo or at least co-produce Bing. Either way I understand what you're saying.

  2. I totally agree with you on competetion driving companies to produce the best product. We as consumers have the opportunity to give favor to one search engine over another if they provide us with a better experience. Right now I think Google takes the cake, mainly because of its simple design. You search for something, the results come up clear with few ads. It may sound trivial, but it's really important to be able to find what you are looking for quickly without having to hunt through a lot of mess. The yahoo website has too many stories, pictures, and flashy ads that are a distraction for those of us who use search engines constantly and need to find information super quick.

  3. Good for Yahoo! Although, I do think they are going to hard a hard time catching up to competitor, Google. Google is just such a well known search engine to all people that maybe $100 million in advertising won't do the job? But who knows, maybe it will! I can't speak on behalf of Yahoo users because I don't have an account, but it just seems to me that Google is the way to go.

  4. I'm glad Yahoo is working harder to get their name bigger. Hopefully it will work out for them. Google is definitely going to hard to catch up to though. Google has become such a convenience for many people. People usually go with what they are used to, but hopefully Yahoo will benefit.

  5. Good for yahoo, I only use Yahoo for my e-mail, but I do like their short news video clips. I don't like google and ever since bing came out, I've not gone back. Yahoo's trying a different approch like bing did and I wonder what they have to offer.
